Classes

Center Stage Dance offers classes in traditional ballet, tap, and jazz, segmented by age (not grade in school). Lessons focus on technique, self-control, awareness of one’s own space, showmanship, stage direction, and blocking. Movement, music, instruction, and costuming are age appropriate.

Classes meet once per week.

A HUGE, super fun production is held at the end of the dance season! All students are expected to participate in the final performance.

Our Class Offerings

“Mommy & Me” (2 years old) * Creative Movement

Mommies and their little sweetie will love our Mommy & Me class offered in 6-week sessions.  Each session has its own fun, colorful, interactive, creative theme your toddler is sure to love!  We will scoot, run, crawl, dance, and make music.  Mommy & Me classes are a half-hour long and typically offered on a weekday morning.

“Movers” (3 years old) * Ballet & Tap

These classes offer an opportunity for children to begin to develop coordination, music awareness, and creativity through song, traditional ballet, and tap dance. Students will perform two dances in the recital production, a tap dance and a ballet dance.

“Pre-Kinder” and “Kinder” (4-6 Year Olds) * Ballet & Tap

These classes offer an introduction to body control and spatial awareness. StudCATSents will begin to work on the disciplines of the ballet barre, ballet positions, rhythm, and musicality. These dancers will perform two dances in the recital production, a tap dance and a ballet dance.

“Primary I & II” (6-9 Years Old) * Ballet & Tap

These classes continue to focus on the development of coordination, body control, and spatial awareness while also improving technique. Through ballet, students will improve body alignment and posture, as well as begin more concentrated floor work. Through tap, students will delve further into creativity, showmanship, and musicality. Students will perform two dances in the rectial production, a tap dance and a ballet dance.

“Elementary” (9-11 Years Old) * Ballet, Tap & Jazz

These classes not only focus on coordination, body control, and spatial awareness, but students are now expected to hone their memorization skills. Learning patterns of movement becomes a priority, as well as listening to the music more carefully. Students in these age groups are also introduced to jazz! These students will perform three dances in the recital production, a tap dance, a ballet dance, and a jazz dance.

“Mid/Jr High” (11-13 Years Old) * Ballet, Tap & Jazz

At this age, classes will begin to focus on the student as part of a team. Dancers will be expected to remember patterns of movement and terminology, as well as learn backstage and theater ettiquette. Students will perform a tap dance, a ballet dance, and a jazz dance in the final recital production.

“Sr High” (14-16 Years Old) * Ballet, Tap & Jazz

These classes focus on perfecting technique, learning terminology, and becoming a leader in CASTLEdance. As part of a team, students will learn formations, use of stage, and enhanced showmanship. These students will perform three dances in the recital production, a tap dance, a ballet dance, and a jazz dance.

“College Prep” (Career Hopefuls) * Ballet, Tap & Jazz

These classes bring all concepts of dance technique and theory together with a specific focus on stage performance. Students are encouraged to develop their own styles, give their ultimate effort and focus, and appreciate dance for the creative, emotional outlet it can provide. Instructors place an intense focus on technique, execution, and expression to adequately prepare students for auditions, college performance, master classes, and college-level intensives.  Dancers who enroll in this class aim to dance in college or professionally. They will perform three dances in the recital, a tap dance, a ballet dance, and a jazz dance.

“Sr Boys” (Upper Classmen) * Tap & Jazz/Musical Theater

The Sr Boys class is made just for guys who bring some dance experience to the floor and want to get better and better!  Students should expect to focus on technique, terminology, and execution in order to perform better on stage.  Goals for becoming a better dancer, being cast in dance roles, and preparing for musical theater study on a college level are achieved here!

“Adult Dance” (performance group) * Tap & JazzADULTS TAP

Adult Dance is designed to be…FUN! Whether you have ever danced a day in your life DOES NOT MATTER! Adult students will have fun learning tap and jazz basics with flair. The group will decide together how many dances to perform in the recital (a tap dance, a jazz dance, or BOTH!).
